Can we say that the moment of revival has arrived in the Church of Burundi? Anywhere, everybody can freely answer this question that comes to the editor’s mind by considering what is happening in the United Methodist Church, Burundi Annual Conference.
Currently, it is not dramatization or an unfounded appreciation when it is said to be a time of revival crusades in the Burundi Annual Conference.
For twelve years, after the death of the late Bishop NDORICIMPA Alphed, the Church of Burundi has fallen into a dark period marked by a crisis of leadership. As a result, the members of the Church were divided and the Burundi UMC took a step backwards throughout that period.
By the grace of God, the parties that were in conflict sat down together in 2018 and decided to resolve their misunderstandings. That was greatly relieved the members of the Church. But it was to wait until the year 2021, when the Burundi Annual Conference found its effective reconciliation in a nationwide crusade organized in July in 2021, in the district of Kayero.
Since then, there have been being organized many evangelistic crusades in different provinces or districts. The most recent is the one organized this weekend by the Intercessors of the CANKUZO District, Kigamba Center, under the theme: “At that time I also said to the people, “Have every man and his helper stay inside Jerusalem at night, so they can serve us as guards by night and as workers by day” (Nehemiah 4:22)
This crusade was characterized by prayers and deliverance, and the collection of contributions to buy a vehicle for the superintendent of the said district in order to facilitate his travels in the accomplishment of the mission entrusted to him by Jesus Christ.
Since the effective reconciliation in the Church, the evangelistic crusades have been planned in the district of Giharo, Gitega, Gisuru and Ngozi. The others are in preparation.
In few words, that is the fulfillment of the word of God written in Hebrews 10: 25: “ not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching”
