His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, the president of the Republic of Burundi participated in the Sunday service of July 10, 2022 with the Christians of the United Methodist Church in St. Peter’s Cathedral, Gitega District. It was a great joy and a historical event in United Methodist Church revered at that level. The congregation present gave all the glory to the Almighty God for such event.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were also some members of parliament and senate, the Minister of Health, Gitega governor, Gitega Communal administrator, District Superintendents and other distinguished guests and the UMC top officials.
After a word of welcome, Rt. Hon. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA briefly informed the official guest on the current state of the church after the negative situation that the church had experienced in the past. He mentioned various infrastructures including schools, hospitals; Guest Houses, Sanctuaries that have already built and others still under-construction in this short period of new leadership. He also informed that the church has made a significant contribution to the development work of the country.
He thanked the Burundi government for all the support they had rendered to the church. He told the official guest that the good cooperation between the church and government leaders have facilitated the positive growth of the UMC and Burundi government economically and spiritually.
A sermon was delivered by the Legal Representative of UMC, Burundi Annual Conference and speaker of Burundi Senate, the Rt. Hon. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA where Christians were invited to build a friendship with God without fear.
His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE appreciated the sermon he shared with Christians in this Sunday service and said, “when you are challenged do not be discouraged or give up on your faithful journey”. He praised UMC programs in general and in particular for the unity of the church that already exists among the members of the church and encouraged men’s organization programs that aim to improve the living conditions of ordinary people in the church. He urged all men to stand firm in their church and in the community around them in order to respect and fulfill what God wants from them.
