After the passing away of Rev. Pastor Zacharie NIYIBONA on 18 August 2021, the funeral ceremonies took place this Wednesday, august 25th, 2021 on his native hill .
The late Rev. Zacharie NIYIBONA was born in 1955 at Kamaramagambo hill, Musongati Commune, Rutana Province in the christian family of MAHENEHENE Abel (was a servant of God in Kamaramagambo Parish in United Methodist Church), and MINANI Rebecca.
About his education:
From 1962 – 1965, Rev. Zacharie NIYIBONA studied at Kamaramagambo Primary School (1 st year – 3 rd year). From 1966 – 1972, he continued his studies at the Kayero Primary School (4th year – 7th year), where he abandoned his studies because of the tragic crisis that hit Burundi in that period. Afterwards, he took the path of exile in Tanzania, where he continued his theological secondary studies in the city of Arusha (Biblical College) and he was graduated in 1977.
What is Rev NIYIBONA known for?
The Church which sent Rev. Zacharie NIYIBONA to the School, assigned the latter as a servant of God in the city of Tanga but Rev. Pastor Zacharie exercised that function with the work of teaching theology to the school named “Biblical School” in Mwanza.
In 1978, Rev. Zacharie NIYIBONA got married, and be ordained as pastor in Tanga in Tanzania.
He had to wait until 1979 when he was fully ordained to be an Elder Pastor, and then in 1982, he got back to Burundi. Arriving in his native country, Rev. Zacharie was agricultural monitor of the Runyoni Hill, in Musongati Commune. After that, he was appointed by the United Methodist Church respectively in Rusunu Parish (1997 – 2000), in Gitongwe Parish (2000 – 2004) and in Kamaramagambo Parish (2004 – 2007).
From 2007 – 2017: he was elected to be Alternate Legal Representative of the United Methodist Church of Burundi while He was also appointed as the Superintendent of CANKUZO District (2007-2011).
From 2011 – 2021: he was appointed to be the Superintendent of Rutana – Kayero District, and he died being superintendent in that area.
